Verdi ( The Irishman) and Tom DeNucci ( Johnny & Clyde). My Father Muhammad Ali is co-directed by award-winning filmmakers Chad A. The documentary takes careful steps to honor Muhammad Ali's legacy and story as well as Muhamma Ali Jr.'s own journey. My Father Muhammad Ali features interviews with Ali's other children as well, including Khalilah Camacho Ali and Rahman Ali. Ali Jr.'s journey seems entwined with his past traumas and Ali's impressive legacy, which is never more clear than when he excitedly announces his plans to open a series of gyms to help kids who are being bullied learn discipline, and how to be their best. He passed away in June 2016, after three decades of declining health, leaving four ex-wives and nine acknowledged children. and his siblings opening up about their experiences and the hardships that come with being the children of a larger-than-life icon gives new insight into the personal side of Ali's life. Unfortunately, in the 1980s, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome, making his motoric skills slowly diminishing every year. The weight of a legacy on your shoulders, not just with a famous father but carrying his name, has clearly had a major impact on Ali Jr.'s life with his addiction, facing bullies while growing up, a sense of abandonment, and the need to live up to his namesake while honoring his legacy. Ali's story has been told countless times in documentaries, books, and films, but never from this perspective.
